Hey Indiana,

One great idea for improving your jazz playing is learning "licks," or short jazz phrases over chord progressions.

This way you can not only sound like your jazz heroes, but start to better understand how you can play over chord changes and sound like a jazz master.

For example check out this lick:

This is a jazz lick played over the most common chord progression in all of jazz (and music), the 5-1.

If you play through it you'll hear how there are a lot of altered notes played over the 5 chord, which gives it this tense feeling that is released when it resolves to the 1 chord.

That's a huge jazz lesson just in this lick!

This is why in our Inner Circle membership we learn licks, solos, and etudes on a monthly basis so we can start internalizing these ideas for ourselves.

We even have a whole course that talks about how to go from learning licks like this, to actually naturally improvising on your own.

Check out this next lick:

Sounds amazing right!

This one is over a 1-4-3-6 chord progression in a jazz blues, which a very common "turn around."

You'll hear how the line also adds tension and resolution but perfectly outlines the chord changes while creating rhythmic interest.

It's stuff like this that really can give you those ðŸ’¡ moments.

I actually go over these in much great detail as well as 3 others in a free video.

I know you're going to get a lot out of it!
