Blinken, Secretary of State On behalf of the Government of the United States of America, I would like to congratulate the people of Timor-Leste as you celebrate the anniversary of your Restoration of Independence on May 20. In the 21 years since Timor-Leste restored its independence, the United States and Timor-Leste have enjoyed a strong friendship and partnership based on mutual respect and a shared commitment to democratic values.  We are working together to advance human rights, expand economic opportunities, address the climate crisis, and safeguard a free and open Indo-Pacific.  We look forward to further strengthening our partnership and expanding our cooperation in the years ahead. Again, our congratulations and best wishes to the people of Timor-Leste as you celebrate your Restoration of Independence Day.
