Tina Turner, the queen of rock 'n' roll responsible for hits such as "What's Love Got to Do with It", has died aged 83.
In a statement shared on Wednesday (24 May), a representative for the "Proud Mary" singer announced that Turner had died at her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.
"With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model," the statement said. "With her music and her inexhaustible vitality, Tina Turner thrilled millions of fans and inspired many artists of subsequent generations." In recent years, Turner had suffered from ill health, having been diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016 and having a kidney transplant in 2017. A private funeral ceremony will be attended by close friends and family, who have asked for privacy. Throughout her lengthy career, she earned eight Grammy Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. |
