The Bost Bulletin Dear Friend, The big focus in the House of Representatives last week was on H.R. 4366, the next fiscal year’s funding bill for military construction and veterans’ programs. This is a critically important bill that funds the infrastructure of America’s military and ensures the brave men and women who have served in uniform receive the benefits and support they deserve. Celebrating Congressional Approval of My Amendment Protecting Veterans' Second Amendment Rights I was honored that Congress approved my amendment to H.R. 4366 to protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding veterans. Many years ago, the Clinton administration created a VA “Fiduciary Rule” that said, if you’re a veteran who needs help with your finances, you’re a “mental defective” who needs to be screened to own a firearm. That means your personal information is forwarded to DOJ for a background check, all because you needed a fiduciary to help manage your money. What sense does that make? What an insult to the men and women who have served. No veteran should be considered “mentally defective” by the VA simply because they need help managing their finances, and they certainly shouldn’t be forwarded to DOJ for additional screening because of it. My amendment will put an end to this unconstitutional assault on the rights of law-abiding gun owners. I’m glad I have the support of the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, and the National Association for Gun Rights in my fight. You can watch my Floor Speech about it below. | | Fully Funding Our Veterans, Strengthening Our Military Infrastructure H.R. 4366 provides $17.5 billion in funding for Department of Defense military construction and family housing. It provides another $300 billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs, ensuring veterans’ programs are fully funding – including the program I helped advance through Congress to provide medical care to post-9/11 veterans who were exposed to dangerous toxins during their service in Iraq and Afghanistan. And it stops the closure of our facilities at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where we detain some of the most dangerous terrorists in the world. Standing Up to the Radical Left We also fought to include provisions in H.R. 4366 that prohibit funds being used to promote Critical Race Theory in the military. We stop the implementation of Biden’s executive orders on diversity, equity, and inclusion. And we eliminate funding for the VA’s Office of Public Affairs, which spread false, politically motivated information intended to deceive veterans about cuts to their programs. All in all, this legislation is a great win for military readiness and our veterans, and I was proud to vote for it. To stay updated on the work I am doing, make sure you follow me on or .
