Hey Wanderer! π Kenny here, founder of The Wander Club, and I have something REALLY exciting to share with you today. This is top secret stuff, my friends!
But before I do, I think it's important to let you in on some of the company's lesser known backstory. So travel back in time with me to the summer of 2018 - right before The Wander Club was even a thought… I had just returned from an epic 3-week Europe trip with some of my friends. We had the best time ever inhaling eating delicious pizza in Rome, crashing riding bicycles through the streets of Amsterdam, and getting boozy picnicking next to the Eiffel Tower in Paris. | | It was such a memorable trip! Or so I thought… As I settled back into the routine of my everyday life, I noticed that my travel memories were starting to fade. I struggled to remember all of the places I had been and the details of what I had experienced. This made me really sad because if I couldn't remember where I had been or what I had done, did I even really go? To help preserve my travel memories, I went to my local hardware store to buy some washers so that I could engrave what would become the very first version of the travel tokens. Here's a photo of my "warehouse" aka my small apartment bedroom: | | See that black hand press on the desk? I used that machine to hand stamp one.letter.at.a.time onto each token. I'd then carefully fill the letters in with a black ink and then move onto the next token. Here's what they used to look like way back in the day: | | Was it time consuming, expensive, and a pain in the booty to make? Yes! Did I want to give up with every press because this seemed like a terrible idea? Yes! Did my right arm get really buff and strong from this manual labor? No…Unfortunately not. π Despite all of the challenges, I was able to make my travel tokens and keep my memories close to me, so I was happy with the end result. After posting about my personal collection on social media, I started to get requests from friends and friends of friends who wanted me to make their collections too. I figured, why not? If I was starting to forget my travel memories, surely there were other people who were dealing with the same problem. So I took a leap of faith and ventured to turn this random idea into an actual business. And that's how The Wander Club was born! π I left the security of my full-time job to commit my every waking moment to crafting token collections for others. 1 order turned into 10, which then turned into 40, and before I knew it, I had more orders than I could keep up with! But I wasn't able to stamp the letters fast enough and I knew I had to find a better way to engrave the tokens. So I decided to use all of the money I had earned from the business to purchase a laser engraving machine. With it, I was able to etch the destination names onto the tokens with more speed and more precision. | | This worked great for years and this style of tokens is probably what your collection is made of. π But as time went on, the feedback started to come in that the tokens were good…but they weren't GREAT. The most frequent complaints we got from the community were that the tokens: ❌ Were boring and didn't have any color or designs ❌ Were difficult to put on and take off ❌ Didn't allow enough characters for full dates and personalization My team and I took all of this feedback to heart and set out to majorly upgrade the product. We burrowed into a creative cave and after ~1.5 years of meticulous design work, trial and error, and sleepless nights, we made something that's never been made before… For the first time ever, my team and I are so, so, so proud to present to you a sneak peek of the new travel tokens. Drumroll pleeeease! π₯π₯π₯ | | Tadaaa! Handcrafted with enamel and a heckuva lot of love, these extra durable tokens address all of the feedback we've received over the years. Aren't they purdy?? With so many destinations to make tokens for, we're still hard at work and putting the finishing touches on them. *PSA: These beauties won't be available to collect until the end of September* Keep a lookout for the official drop next month! | | As for the current version of the tokens (aka Legacy Tokens), my team and I working hard to come up with a solution to make them available to past customers. We've also spent countless hours thinking about this very moment and have come up with a thoughtful way to help you complete OR transition your collection as seamlessly and affordably as possible. More info to come soon! Anddd that's all I've got, friend. I wanted to wander down memory lane with you to show that we've come so far but that we couldn't have done it without you. We couldn't have made it through the pandemic without you. We couldn't have donated 200,000+ meals to children in need without you. And we certainly couldn't have co-created the world's best travel collection without you. From celebrating your life's biggest adventures to helping you be the gift giving hero of the year, we're so honored that you've let us be a small part of your story. Here's to many more adventures together! Cheers, Kenny Founder of The Wander Club P.S. - We're here to help!
