Hey Indiana,Something you may have noticed in jazz tunes is that sometimes chord substitutions are used. A chord substitution is essentially when one chord in a progression is swapped out for a different one. It could be the same chord just a different quality (ex. minor to dominant).Or it could be an entirely different chord altogether. But what is the most common chord substitution found in jazz? Secondary dominants.Secondary dominants are often baked into jazz standards, but you can also superimpose them if you know how to do it. While the terminology might sound daunting, it's actually not too difficult of a concept to understand. That's why I created a free video for you where I discuss secondary dominants and exactly how to use them.
