Hamas has abducted roughly 150 innocent civilians during their brutal terrorist attacks in Israel. The hostages are women, children, and seniors. Among them are Americans, all under the threat of execution. I cosponsored a resolution calling for the immediate release of the hostages held in Gaza. We have a moral obligation to stand with Israel and be unwavering in our support for our ally and its people.

Remembering the Innocent Lives Lost

I participated in a vigil on the steps of the U.S. Capitol to remember the innocent lives lost in the terrorist attacks in Israel and to pray for the families of the victims and those still in harm’s way. America will always stand with Israel. It was an important moment of unity that has been too absent in Washington recently.

Selecting a Speaker

I was proud to support Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House during a vote of the Republican Conference on Friday. Jim is a conservative fighter who cares deeply for this country. At a time when we face serious challenges at home and abroad, House Republicans can’t afford to wait another moment to unify and get back to governing. When the House meets behind closed doors this afternoon, I’ll be voting for Jim Jordan; and I’ll do the same when his nomination comes to the House Floor.

Improving ATV, e-bike, and Off-Road Vehicle Access on Shawnee Trails

I introduced the Shawnee TRAILS Act last week to improve recreational ATV, e-bike, and off-road vehicle accessibility along certain trails at the Shawnee National Forest. I am fighting to protect Southern Illinoisans’ right to access and enjoy one of our greatest natural treasures. Most other national forests already allow motorized off-road vehicles on their trails, and the Shawnee should be no different. However, we’ll take special care to ensure the trails are properly protected and maintained, and that riders enjoy the privilege responsibly. This will open the Shawnee to a whole new segment of visitors, including those with limited physical mobility. I am proud to represent the congressional district that includes Shawnee National Forest and all the local residents who cherish utilizing its many trails.

Working to Improve Access to Safer Truck Parking

Last week CBS News profiled the work we’re doing to improve access to safe truck parking for tractor trailers. This isn’t a matter of simple convenience. It’s a matter of public safety. I’m continuing to work to ensure that all commuters are made safer by stopping our truckers from being forced to push that extra mile to find rest. You can read more here.

Thanking our Farmers on National Farmer’s Day

Thursday was National Farmer’s Day, a day to thank our hardworking farmers, ranchers, and producers across Southern Illinois. I’m proud to represent one of the most agriculturally diverse congressional districts in the region. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, I’m fighting to represent your voice and priorities in the upcoming Farm bill. Thank you for providing the food, fuel, and fiber to keep America strong!
