OCTOBER SPECIAL: Half-off adult tickets to The Culture Throughout October, adults can save 50 percent when they purchase tickets to The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century during select times! Tickets must be purchased on-site only for ticket times between 11 am and 2 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Ticket Special GALLERY TALK: "I Forget I Am a Painter, not a Politician" October 12 | 1–2 pm | Free Charles E. Valier, chairman of the Bingham Trust, will lead a gallery talk about Missourian George Caleb Bingham. The free program begins in Sculpture Hall and is limited to 30 visitors on a first-come, first-served basis. DROP IN COLLECTION TOUR: Significant Sculptures October 13 | 1–2 pm | Free Join a SLAM docent for an engaging tour of the Museum's collection. October's theme, Significant Sculptures, highlights three-dimensional objects throughout the collection. Tours begin in Sculpture Hall are limited to 15 visitors on a first-come, first-served basis. FREE FRIDAYS: The Culture October 13 | 10 am-8 pm | Free Experience The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century for free! On Fridays, ticketed exhibitions are free and the Museum is open late, with the last entry into the exhibition at 8 pm. ART AT THE TABLE: Uncle Nearest Dinner October 13 | 5-9 pm | See website for pricing Combining fine dining and great art, this Art at the Table will highlight Uncle Nearest Tennessee Whiskey Company and The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century. Art at the Table MYLONAS LECTURE: The Greek Symposium in Context October 13 | 6–7 pm | Free The ancient Greek symposium was a small, all-male drinking party held in a private home. Kathleen Lynch, professor of classics at the University of Cincinnati, will discuss the specialized ceramic equipment designed specifically for these gatherings by examining pottery excavated from an Athenian house. Mylonas Lecture ADULT WORKSHOP: Layers of Abstraction October 14 | 1–4 pm | Free, space is limited Join Kevin McCoy, artist and cofounder of work/play, as he leads a workshop inspired by mixed-media artworks by Black Abstract artists in the Thelma and Bert Ollie Memorial Collection. This hands-on workshop provides a chance to visit SLAM's Print Study Room to see artworks currently not on view.
