| Friday, 24 November | Issue 231 Saturday, 25 November International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women25 November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which kicks off the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence that runs until 10 December (Human Rights Day). More action is needed to ensure women in all their diversity live free of violence and coercion. Almost 1 in 3 women are subjected to violence, mostly by an intimate partner. Impacts can last a lifetime, affecting physical, mental, sexual, and reproductive health. Ahead of the Day, WHO has released new free e-learning resources for health workers who are often the first, sometimes the only point of contact for women experiencing violence. Throughout the 16 Days, WHO will launch additional resources including: - e-learning for humanitarian emergencies, offering health workers in emergency settings an opportunity to learn about care for survivors of rape and intimate partner violence, available on Disaster Ready and OpenWHO.
- Measurement and data toolkit to strengthen evidence, including a checklist to collect violence against women data, as well as important new resources for improving understanding and measurement of violence against women living with disabilities and older women.
- Animation videos with survivor voices telling the stories of human suffering behind the numbers and motivating us to listen, express empathy, support survivors and speak out to say that violence against women is never acceptable.

Monday, 27 November Virtual media briefing on climate, health and WHO at COP28COP28 (30 November to 12 December 2023, Dubai, United Arab Emirates) presents a unique opportunity to lift the political profile of the climate and health agenda and to prioritize the health of people and the planet in climate negotiations. A virtual media briefing will be held on Monday, 27 November at 14.00 CET (Geneva time). The speakers will brief journalists on WHO participation in COP28, the activities scheduled at the Health Pavillion and the demand by the global health community for urgent, bold and immediate climate action. Thursday, 30 November A virtual briefing on key findings of the World Malaria Report 2023Each year, WHO’s World malaria report provides a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of trends in malaria control and elimination across the globe. This year’s report includes, for the first time, a dedicated chapter focused on the intersection between climate change and malaria. A virtual press briefing will be held at 14:00 – 15:00 CET on Thursday, 30 November. Connection details will be sent to media next week.  Friday, 1 December World AIDS Day WHO and its international partners will mark World AIDS Day on Friday, 1 December under the theme ‘Let Communities Lead’. For decades communities have had a critical role in driving progress towards the goal of ending AIDS for good - from advocating for access to comprehensive prevention, treatment and care services to fighting stigma and discrimination. Despite significant progress in 2022 630,000 people died from HIV related causes and 1.3 million acquired HIV.
