Wake up with Good Morning America

| 🌍 The Israel Defense Forces has started a ground operation in southern Gaza that "will be no less powerful than" the operations in northern Gaza, an IDF official said. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told ABC News that the U.S. thinks "about eight" Americans remain hostage. Meanwhile, over 600 foreign passport holders -- nearly half of whom are Americans and Canadians -- were on a list of people approved to leave Gaza on Sunday. The news comes as hundreds of demonstrators gathered on Saturday at the first anti-government protest held in Tel Aviv since Oct. 7. Additionally, an Israeli security source told ABC News on Friday that Israel will no longer hold fire as negotiations with Hamas progress. As Israel resumed its bombardment of the war-torn territory, after a cease-fire with Hamas ended, Gaza's Hamas-run Ministry of Health said at least 178 people died and another 589 were wounded in the Gaza Strip on Friday. ☁️ Storms targeted both coasts on Sunday, with rain and snow slamming the Northeast and the Pacific Northwest. Several inches of snow are piling up Sunday into Monday from the Adirondacks in New York to the White Mountains of New Hampshire and Maine, forecasts show, and a series of storms are forecast to bombard the Northwest over the next several days. 🚓 Four fatal shootings that occurred in the Los Angeles area this week -- including the unprovoked killings of three men who were all experiencing homelessness -- have been linked to one suspect, identified as Jerrid Joseph Powell, 33, who has been arrested, according to police. Powell was already in custody for another homicide that occurred in Los Angeles County this week involving a follow-home robbery, police said. 🚨 At least four people were fatally stabbed, including two children ages 11 and 12, early Sunday at a New York City home when a suspect went on what authorities allege was a "rampage," allegedly setting fire to the couch in the residence and slashing two police officers with a kitchen knife before being shot to death. The suspect was identified by police as 38-year-old Courtney Gordon. 👪 A family in Kentucky will celebrate their ninth Christmas together this year as a family of three after Jason Smith, a school principal for 14 years, adopted his now daughter, Raven Whitaker-Smith, whom he first met outside his office after she was suspended from the sixth grade. | |
