The Bost Bulletin Dear Friend, Last week I sent out a survey asking Southern Illinoisans for their thoughts on critical issues impacting America in 2024. We had thousands of responses. Thank you to all who participated; your feedback will help me best represent you in Washington, D.C. Please read on for the results. 1. Are we facing a national security crisis at the border? An overwhelming 77% of respondents said we are facing a national security crisis at the southern border. I couldn’t agree more. I’ve visited the border at Eagle Pass, Texas, twice in the last nine months. I met with border patrol agents who were overworked and undermanned. They know what the rest of America knows: the Biden administration has failed miserably in addressing the problem. That’s why I have cosponsored a resolution to impeach the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas. And that’s why I introduced legislation to stop the Biden administration from using resources intended for American veterans to facilitate healthcare for illegal immigrants. Make no mistake about it, the situation at our southern border is a crisis. 2. Should the federal government finish building the Mexico border wall? Nearly 68% of those who answered our survey also believe, like I do, that the federal government should finish building President Trump’s border wall. I voted for the Secure the Border Act to finish the wall, end catch and release, and hire more border patrol agents. This important legislation passed the House but has been gathering dust on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s desk for months. 3. Should there be new gun control laws that regulate gun ownership for law-abiding Americans? As a lifelong gun owner and sportsman, I agree with the 62% of you oppose new gun control laws. In Congress, I have fought tooth and nail to protect our gun rights. I introduced legislation that passed Congress to protect veterans from losing their right to keep and bear arms without Due Process. I have strongly supported concealed carry reciprocity and worked closely with gun rights organizations on key legislative priorities. As long as I am your voice in Congress, there will be no stronger advocate for the Second Amendment than me. 4. Should taxpayer dollars be used to provide abortion services? By a 66%-24% margin, respondents opposed using taxpayer dollars to provide abortion services. As a man of faith and an unapologetic pro-life conservative, I believe life begins at conception. I cosponsored the Life at Conception Act, which reaffirms that life begins at conception, and that with that life come constitutional protections. I have also voted time and again for the Hyde amendment, which is a law ensuring that no taxpayer dollars will go to abortion services. 5. Should Congress stop passing trillion-dollar funding bills if they don't include serious spending reforms? This is another question that yielded an overwhelming response. By a 75%-16% margin, respondents believed that Congress must stop passing massive spending bills if they don’t include serious spending reforms and a great focus on securing the border. Earlier this week, I voted NO on a short-term Continuing Resolution that would fund the government at current levels with no spending reforms, just as I voted NO on a CR in November, and I voted NO on a CR in September. We must act now to ensure these fiscal burdens are not our children and grandchildren’s to bear. 6. Are you concerned that non-citizens may be able to vote in our elections? Regarding non-citizens voting in our elections, 73% of respondents said they are concerned. Federal law is clear: only eligible U.S. citizens can vote in national elections. Any ineligible or illegal vote cast by a non-citizen would dilute the voice and vote of a legal citizen who cast a legitimate ballot. That is why I introduced the District of Columbia Citizen Voter Act to stop non-citizens from voting in our capital city. I also filed a lawsuit against the State of Illinois for counting ballots after the election. When the American people feel they can no longer trust the election process, that’s a problem that needs to be fixed immediately. 7. Do liberal energy policies like the "Green New Deal" hurt American workers and weaken our energy security? By a 63%-27% margin, respondents said they believe liberal energy policies like the Green New Deal are harmful to the economy. I voted for the Lower Energy Cost Act to restore American energy independence, increase domestic production, and reform the permitting process. By comparison, President Biden rejoined the costly Paris Climate Accord, placed a moratorium on new oil and gas leasing on federal lands, and withdrew approval for the Keystone XL oil pipeline. We must end this radical Green New Deal agenda and drive down costs for the American people. To stay updated on the work I am doing, make sure you follow me on Facebook or .
