| One Nation Tory fightback | Respect to Tobias Ellwood, the Conservative MP for Bournemouth East, who is leading the fightback by the "One Nation" wing of the party against the confused and contradictory launch of "Popular Conservatism" by some of the most unpopular people in the Tory party. "If we move to the extreme right, we will move ourselves out of British politics," Ellwood told GB News, which most of the time is a cheerleader for the 57 varieties of Tory fundamentalists. "This party will move into oblivion if we continue on this right-wing approach." Ellwood is the brave purveyor of blunt truths in today's Tory party. At the weekend he called for "the power of selecting the leader" to be "returned to the parliamentary party" – otherwise "this slide toward right-wing populism will gift the centre ground to Labour (as we saw under former Prime Minister Tony Blair), and maroon the Tories at the extreme". | |

| Tomorrow inside the Westminster bubble | Our political commentator Andrew Grice on what to look out for | Prime Minister's Questions at noon should be more sombre than usual, as party leaders and MPs send their good wishes to the King.
The Commons will sit at 11.30am for women and equalities questions to Kemi Badenoch and her ministerial team. Votes on the police grant and local government finance will give MPs a chance to raise the parlous state of town hall finances.
The Westminster Hall mini-chamber does not normally attract much attention. But there may be an exception when Tory MP Rachel Maclean stages a debate on the deportation of foreign national offenders at 4.30pm. | |
