What to know: The all-stock deal brings together two of the country's largest credit card companies and would make it the biggest credit card lender in the U.S.
Zooming out: Credit card usage has soared in recent months as Americans try to keep up with inflation. The merger, announced yesterday, is likely to face scrutiny from the government.

What happened? The British-owned cargo ship was at risk of sinking after one of the most damaging attacks yet by Houthis off the coast of Yemen, they claimed yesterday.
Who are they? The Iran-backed militants have been attacking ships in the Red Sea in protest of Israel's war in Gaza. Recent U.S. and British strikes on Houthi targets have failed to deter them.
Today: The U.S. plans to veto a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza.

Why? State law says "unborn children are 'children,'" the court explained. So a person who mistakenly destroyed embryos could be held liable in a wrongful-death lawsuit.
The bigger picture: Friday's decision could threaten access to in vitro fertilization, for which multiple embryos are created and then frozen, as well as some contraception.

In 2021: A group of gunmen with assault weapons killed President Jovenel Moïse and wounded his wife, Martine, at their home in the hills overlooking Port-au-Prince.
What's new? The former first lady is one of 51 people indicted in the attack, according to a report obtained by The Post yesterday. Her whereabouts are unknown.

Why? For using game-like design features to get people hooked on swiping — not in relationships — according to a suit filed last week. Parent company Match Group called it ridiculous.
