The Bost Bulletin

Dear Friend,

Did you know that last year’s Super Bowl set the record for most watched television program in history? Not to be outdone, Joe Biden is setting records himself. Under Biden’s watch, we hit one million border encounters in the shortest amount of time ever recorded. House conservatives passed a bill nearly a year ago to end this crisis, but the D.C. liberals continue to fumble a golden opportunity to help enact the tough border enforcement this country needs.

Rejecting the Senate Border Compromise

The Democrat-controlled Senate released its border security compromise last week. It would require an average of 5,000 border encounters per day before new security measures must be implemented. Folks, we’ve already lost the battle if we’re letting up to 150,000 migrants hit the border before we do something to stop it. Fortunately, it appears the bill may not survive conservative opposition in the Senate. Either way, if it comes before the House, you can rest assured I am voting NO. We cannot compromise our way out of this crisis.

Impeaching Mayorkas

As I promised to do, I cast my vote to impeach Joe Biden’s Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas. This administration has failed in its constitutional duty to keep America safe and protect our borders, and for that, we must have new leadership. By a one vote margin, Democrats marshalled together enough opposition to derail the vote – but I expect it to come to the floor once again in the coming weeks. And when it does, rest assured, I will again vote to remove Biden’s Homeland Security secretary from office.

Strengthening Opportunities for Rural College Education

I met with representatives of Southeastern Illinois College last week. It was a pleasure discussing how we can continue working together to bolster opportunities for higher education in the region.

I also had an opportunity to visit with Aaron Smith, Vice Chair of the John A. Logan College Board of Trustees. We discussed the latest news at the college and ways we can continue to build a bright future for our rural communities in Southern Illinois.

Bringing Metropolis Soldier Home

It's great to see that almost 80 years after being declared MIA, U.S. Army Air Forces Tech Sgt. William Leukering will be brought home to Metropolis. Thanks to technological advancements at the VA, we're identifying and bringing home the sacred remains of more heroes than ever before. You can learn more by clicking here.

Celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Last week, we marked National Girls and Women in Sports Day, a day to celebrate the athletic achievements of girls and women from school athletics all the way to the professional level.  As the grandfather of seven granddaughters, it’s why I have fought so hard to preserve these opportunities and cosponsored legislation to restrict federal funding for programs that allow biological males to compete in organized sports specifically designated for girls.

Recognizing Our Service Academy Nominees

Lastly but certainly not least, I want to congratulate our 2024 Service Academy nominees. Southern Illinois is fortunate to have some of the brightest and most patriotic students in the country. With Scott Air Force Base in our backyard, it's easy to see why service means so much to our young people. Best of luck as your journey of service moves forward!
