Setting the stage

Tomorrow the Church celebrates Saint Joseph. This special feast near the middle of Lent gives a chance to take a breather and reflect on where the season is headed.

During his earthly life, Saint Joseph got things ready for Jesus. As a dad he provided stability, affection, and instruction to the young Jesus who went on to rescue all of humanity from destruction and completely transform the world.

Even today, Joseph is still hard at work in heaven getting the world ready for Jesus! Saint Joseph's feast day helps us see and appreciate the humble and faithful service of the earthly father of Jesus but doesn't stop there: it propels us into the mystery that is to come in the person of the resurrected Christ.
