A Message from Ann

A message from Congresswoman Ann Wagner

Dear Friend,

I am pleased to announce my Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Extension Act was signed into law.  It is our responsibility to speak up and act when we see injustice.  My bill will strengthen our ongoing efforts to respond to atrocities globally and work to prevent such crises from developing at all.

The world has seen unimaginable tragedies, and, especially in the wake of the brutal terror attack on October 7th in Israel, we know there is still much to be done to protect innocent civilians from depraved people who wish to wipe them from the Earth simply for who they are.  This legislation will ensure our government can better assist vulnerable populations globally and act quickly when time matters most.  Read more here.

Last week, the Department of Labor released a reckless new Fiduciary Rule.  Disguised as an attempt to eliminate so called ‘junk fees,’ the Biden Administration’s rushed rulemaking will leave millions of low-and middle-income retail investors without access to sound investment advice, forcing them to endure higher costs, fewer choices, and reduced service. This reckless decision is yet another overreaching mandate from Joe Biden’s Department of Labor that does nothing to actually protect consumers, but instead prevents them from making the best choice for their families.  Joe Biden needs to stop treating people like children and making decisions for them. I am a firm believer Americans know what’s best for themselves, not the government.  Read my full statement here.

The Financial Services Committee held a markup recently on a resolution that would ensure our financial system is not overly burdened by regulations from the Financial Stability Oversight Council that is ultimately just unaccountable government bureaucrats. To grant such unfettered discretionary power to a government agency should concern every American, particularly when the body exercising that power (FSOC) is composed almost entirely of members of a single political party.  Learn more about this legislation here.

I met with SWIFT CEO, Javier Perez-Tasso, to discuss our global payments system and the U.S. sanctions regime. I appreciated learning about the pilot programs they have underway to speed up payments around the world.

I spoke during a Foreign Affairs Committee hearing where we examined the ongoing cooperation between Russia and Iran, and how dangerous that partnership is to the stability of our world.  Iran has attacked one of our most steadfast allies in the Middle East, and is constantly threatening to do even more.  The world is on fire, and we cannot bury our heads in the sand, we must do more.  Read more on this hearing in The Hill here.

My office continues to provide constituent services to those who need our help.  Whether it is a Medicare issue, a problem with the VA or the IRS, or even getting a passport expedited, we can help.  Call us at our district offices at 636-779-5449 or 636-231-1001 or visit our website here.

Sincerely,

Ann Wagner
Member of Congress
