Jack Sock Goes For Gold At The Red Rock Open |
Championship Sunday is just around the corner for this year's Selkirk Red Rock Open, and you may see some familiar faces on center court for the singles gold medal matches. |
Jack Sock set the tone early in the day, defeating Michael Loyd 11-0, 11-0 in round 1. He secured his spot in the finals with a two game victory over talented competitor Christian Alshon, lining him up to meet none other than Federico Staksrud in the men's singles finals. Staksrud has now made 9 Championship Sundays in a row, defeating Tyson McGuffin in one of the best matches of the tournament so far to secure his spot in the gold medal match. |

Plenty of players will agree that knowing how to control the game in the transition zone is the difference between beginner and intermediate or advanced players. The trick to control is making transition zone decisions based on what your opponent is doing; specifically, what is the height of their paddle? If your opponent's paddle is above their head on the return, this is the "red light zone" indicating you should stay near the baseline to receive a fast-paced shot. If your opponent's paddle is below their waist, this is the "green light zone" indicating you should move up to the kitchen line. Learn more about "traffic light zones" and TWO drills you can work on next time you hit the court to improve your transition zone movement. |
