Saint Germaine is a lesser known French saint whose life reads a whole lot like a Cinderella story. With a cruel, abusive, and neglectful stepmother the young peasant girl's physical disability and sickly appearance gained the ire of her family who banished her from the house to sleep in the barn and to spend her days tending the sheep. After spending much time in silence and prayer and frequently receiving the sacraments Germaine forgave those who mistreated her and became known as a miracle worker & holy woman to all the people of her town until – at the young age of 22 – she succumbed to the decades of neglect she had received. The twist is that while Germaine never met a prince who whisked her off away from her troubles, she did meet the Prince of Peace who made even her troubles a way to grow closer to Him. Mercy like Germaine's is rare but through her intercession we can grow step by step to better imitate the merciful God who invites us into the same infinite bliss that Germaine now enjoys | | | | |
