GROWING GOOD DADS

Parenting, Coaching, and the ABCs from a Football Coach and Father of Two

This week on the Growing Good Dads blog, we're recapping the most recent episodes of the Good Dads podcast, in case you missed it!

Frank Tristan, a husband, father, and football coach, discusses how to help your child find the right activity to suit their interests.

“At the end of the day, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Once you’ve done it a little bit with some length to it, you realize ‘it’ll all work out.’ We just have to be consistent.”

Grit

Learning to Encourage Your Child Through Passion and Perseverance

Join us this week for a podcast from the Good Dads archive! Dr. Baker and J Fotsch discuss some of the characteristics that help kids succeed, including grit.

Dr. Jennifer Baker provided some words of wisdom in relation to grit. Dr. Baker says that grit is an important character trait that involves both passion and perseverance.

"We're not going to have grit for everything, but the more often we can have a 'gritty' attitude about the challenges we face, the better off we'll be."

BUDGET WINS FOR GOOD DADS

Governor Mike Parson signed the state budget at the end of June. Thanks to the collaboration of many folks in the Missouri legislature, Good Dads remains in the state budget!

Because of this, we will continue to serve Missouri communities through various programs and services. We are so excited to receive this additional funding because it means we can enter many more communities that previously did not have Good Dads services.

UNITED WAY GRANT RECIPIENTS

TRIVIA

Last week's back-to-school related trivia question asked what year yellow became the official color of American school buses. Here's how our subscribers responded:

  • 1929 (6%)
  • 1930 (7%)
  • 1939 (13%)
  • 1940 (7%)
  • 1949 (20%)
  • 1950 (47%)

The answer is 1939! The reason why they're yellow is so they can be easily spotted. It's the same reason why taxis are yellow!
