The 4th of July is this week. And, to celebrate the birthday of the United States, we have a recently republished book featuring prophetic words for Americans, penned by a soon to be American saint - Ven. Fulton Sheen.
Originally written over a half century ago, A Declaration of Dependence provides clear insights for American citizens today, laying out a prophetic vision of where our country is headed and what we must do to put it back under the authority of God.
While still alive, Fulton Sheen foresaw the divisions and hatreds that would destabilize America, warning us that we have turned from God and are on the precipice. He states that there is "too much tolerance of evil and not enough intolerance of injustice." With his prescient wit, wisdom, and fervor, he firmly establishes God's truth amid the propagandist lies that have come to fruition in our time - lies that are meant to destroy virtue. He reminds us why we must fear what kills the soul more than what kills the body. He exposes the current false prophets and philosophies at work in the world and the many "believers" who no longer worship or act in accordance with their beliefs.
Ultimately, he shows that "by declaring ourselves independent of God, we have made ourselves slaves to the world." But, like any prophet his warnings are not without hope. Archbishop Sheen invites us to examine our consciences to see how we can change. Best of all, he explains how God is good and loving and will not let us down.
Today is the final day to order this prescient call to action from the soon to be American saint Fulton Sheen. May God truly bless America this 4th of July and help each of us become saints!!
God bless you!
