Sup, |
It's hard to believe but we're more than halfway through 2024. The year has been a wild ride and I've seen record-breaking successes in the past few months, which continues to be amazing. |
Was this forwarded to you? |
|
But if you haven't been around the entire year then you may have missed newsletter and podcast content worth going back to. |
I'm going to spin the greatest hits today and give you all my picks for the Owned and Operated stuff you'll want to revisit. |
Let's do it. |

The Most Scalable Newsletters So Far |
It's been a busy year so far, so here's the stuff you guys clicked on the most. |
|
"I like the opportunities water and its all-consuming ability to wreck our lives offers. An average order value of $3,500-4,000 isn't too shabby either." |
|
"When you're just starting, maybe pulling in under $3-5 million, you probably have a bookkeeper handling your financials. Maybe you outsource it, get someone to put together your numbers and handle your bills." |
|
"One of the most significant errors I made was adopting a cost-saving first philosophy. In 2020, we decided to move our entire call center operations to the Philippines to reduce expenses." |
|
"Ten times out of ten I'm going to buy over build. Why? Why wait a year or more to get off the ground? Spend, and get going right away." |
|
"I bought that business in Q4 of 2021. And as we all know, 2022 saw drastic changes. Interest rates, material prices with a ten percent increase, and rising fuel costs. It made the lockdown year look quaint." |

A Half-Year of Actionable Podcast Advice |
We've had so many cool guests and episodes this year, but these are my faves. These are all YouTube links, so if you want audio then you can find the show on Spotify and Apple. |
|
We love to talk about the businesses that offer the most scalability right from the start. If you're looking to begin your acquisition journey then you can't do better than this list. |
|
We've all got our reasons for getting into business. But I really love this episode of the podcast where we talked about not only why we're scaling, but how we plan on doing it. |
|
Our podcast studio is brand new and we've had exactly one in-person guest so far: Service Scalers CEO Sam Preston. He's a great dude and it was a lot of fun showing him the warehouse and talking about marketing. |
|
I love my warehouse. Maybe you picked up on that from the tour video. In this episode of the pod me and Jack talked about the strategies we use to increase sales by keeping a tidy back of the house. |
|
We've talked about AI multiple times on the show in 2024, but nothing will beat getting to hear about it from one of the best in the game, Tyson Chen. We just let him talk about his business and it turned out amazing. |
You can see how cool Avoca AI is for yourself by scheduling a demo and using the offer code OWNED. |
And if you're looking for some interesting food for thought when it comes to where the home services industry is going then I highly recommend a new piece by Alec over and HomePros. |
He writes about the potential for an "Uber for HVAC" in the future and connecting homeowners and service techs directly. |
It's a fascinating thought experiment that could become real sooner than later. |
Thanks for reading. Get out there and get it.👊 |

Sometimes you need to ask yourself if a part of your business is holding progress back from a capacity standpoint or is it that you're spending money on things that won't generate revenue and profit. | | | 5:00 PM • Jul 1, 2024 | | | | | | 14 Likes 0 Retweets | 1 Reply |
