News:

Dave Gonigam – A Tie Vote for President

We’re already thinking beyond the stupid debate tonight. Ponder this possibility — a tie vote in the Electoral College.

It can happen — 269-269, neither candidate reaching the 270 threshold.

It very nearly happened in 2020. As we mentioned shortly after Election Day, the race came down to fewer than 43,000 total votes in Arizona, Georgia and Wisconsin.

Trump victories in those three states would have resulted in an Electoral College tie — sending the vote to the House of Representatives for the first time since 1824.

We’ll let that thought sink in for a moment — because here’s something even more mind-bending…

America:

Sean Ring – What Did Trump Grab in Ohio?

Springfield, a mid-sized town in Ohio, has been at the center of a heated debate due to the significant influx of Haitian immigrants over the past few years. The New York Post estimates their number to be between 15,000 and 20,000, a figure that represents a quarter to a third of the town's population of 60,000.

To be fair, these immigrants fled Haiti's economic instability, natural disasters, and political turmoil, seeking a better life for their families. However, their arrival has been controversial. Amid the town’s economic struggles, where resources are increasingly stretched thin, the townspeople have understandably met the sudden arrival of immigrants with unease.

Recently, rumors spread that Haitian immigrants were responsible for the disappearance of local pets.

Davis Wilson – Palantir: Next Victim of the S&P 500 “Inclusion Effect”

Palantir will be added to the S&P 500 on September 23rd. And the stock spiked on the news yesterday, closing higher by 14%.

The price increase coincides with what’s known as the “S&P 500 inclusion effect” — the tendency for a stock's price to spike on news that it will join a widely followed benchmark, like the S&P 500, only to stagnate following the addition.

As bullish as I am on artificial intelligence, Palantir’s current sky-high valuation is just not sustainable.

There are plenty of AI stocks with high growth potential trading at reasonable valuations… I can’t see Palantir as one of them.
