Donald Trump was unharmed after a potential assassination attempt.

What happened? A man pointed a rifle into a Florida golf course where Trump was playing yesterday. An agent opened fire and Trump was rushed away — we mapped the scene here.
The investigation: A 58-year-old man, who spent recent years trying to join the war in Ukraine, was arrested and a rifle was recovered. Trump used the incident to raise campaign funds.

Sen. JD Vance doubled down on false claims about migrants in Ohio.

Yesterday: Trump's running mate defended baseless claims that Haitians are eating cats and dogs. Republicans are increasingly fueling conspiracy theories like this one.

Catastrophic flooding killed at least seven people in Europe.

Where? Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia have been hit by flooding or heavy snow since Friday.
What else to know: The extreme storm led to rescue operations and raised fears of contaminated water. The severe weather is expected to continue this week.

The Taliban has begun enforcing new draconian laws in Afghanistan.

What to know: A religious code, issued last month, bans women from raising their voices and looking at men other than their husbands or relatives, among other restrictions.
Zooming out: The Taliban retook power in Afghanistan following the U.S.'s chaotic withdrawal in 2021. It had previously ruled from 1996 to 2001, when women's education was banned.
