Forget Sidelines — Crowd The MIDDLE?! |
If you've ever watched high level doubles pickleball, you may have noticed the players clustering around the middle of the court and completely abandoning their sidelines. So, WHY do they do that? How can they be so sure their opponent won't aim over their outside shoulder and hit the wide open line? In this post-game analysis by pickleball pro James Ignatowich, James breaks down one of his doubles plays LIVE to show you exactly why pros choose to crowd the center of the court on middle balls. The most important takeaway is this: if you're covering the middle when the ball is being played in the middle of the court, your opponents' drive to your sideline is probably going out! As with many strategies in pickleball, this one is about playing the high percentage shots. Catch the full breakdown by James below. |

Pickleball Courts FULL? Build Your Own In Minutes!
|
By now, every pickleball player knows the feeling of arriving at your local park or rec play center to find the pickleball courts packed and the tennis courts empty. If you want to make use of that empty space, here's everything you need to know to convert tennis courts into pickleball courts! |
The most common setup involves using one or both sides of the tennis court to hold individual pickleball courts with portable nets. All you need to accomplish this is a net and a roll of tape! Here are the dimensions for a pickleball court: |
The entire pickleball court is: 20 feet wide 44 feet long. |
The kitchen/non-volley zones are: 20 feet wide. 7 feet high. |
Each service area is: 10 feet wide (from sideline to centerline). 15 feet long (from kitchen line to baseline). |
The net is: Up to 22.5 feet wide. 36 inches high (at the sidelines). 34 inches high (at the center). |
Some players opt to use the tennis net as the pickleball net if they don't own a portable pickleball net. In this case, you would need to lower the net. With this setup, you will not be able to hit ATPs because the length of the tennis net extends much farther than the sidelines of your temporary pickleball court. |
