Hey Indiana, One of the most important things you can do for learning and improving at playing jazz is to listen to the music. It seems simple, but this comes down to basic language learning philosophy. When you hear the music played many times you begin to hear the nuances of what is happening, even if you don't quite understand it. You begin to discover the solos and songs you like and want to learn so you can improve. You more fully understand the history and scope of the music which not only contributes to deepening your appreciation, but helps you understand how the music has evolved. It goes without saying, if you want to improve as a jazz player, by default you should be listening to a lot of jazz. It's also important you are checking out some of the most important albums.
