W. Murnau's iconic creepfest. NOSFERATU is a gothic tale of obsession, love, and creeping dread. After estate agent Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult) is sent to Transylvania to meet with a mysterious new client, Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård), he begins to suspect his enigmatic host may be exactly as nefarious as he appears. Driven by an insatiable hunger, Orlok's shadow (and 5,000 real rats, apparently) soon falls upon the city and over Hutter's own wife, Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp). NOSFERATU is a chilling rendition of the classic tale with some genuinely shocking yet beautiful imagery that will rattle you to the bone – basically, exactly what you'd expect from the director of THE LIGHTHOUSE, THE WITCH, and THE NORTHMAN. While Robert Eggers does break from his film naming convention here, his style is unmistakable, adding just enough of a spin on the original to make it his own. From the exceptional costuming to the haunting visual design to the occasional dose of dark humor, this is 100% uncut Eggers. And while Max Schreck certainly left a big coffin to fill, Skarsgård was born to play the infamous vampyre. His portrayal of Count Orlok is filled with malice and desire, bringing the detestable creature to unlife perfectly. Depp also gives a stunning performance, while Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson fill out a cast so good it's scary.
