 Friend, The Secretary of Defense is one of the most consequential positions in our government. This person runs the U.S. military, advises the president during international crises, and is responsible for the safety of our nation. Donald Trump's nominee to lead the Pentagon lacks the experience and character needed for this critical position. Pete Hegseth's radical views, alleged sexual assault, and complete lack of experience should all be disqualifying. Pete Hegseth is unfit to lead the Pentagon. Join me in calling on the Senate to reject his nomination today: At his confirmation hearing earlier this week, Hegseth was asked why a television personality who has never led any large organization should lead the Pentagon. He was asked about his claims that "we should not have women in combat roles." He was asked about his alleged excessive drinking and sexual assault. But Hegseth dodged each of these important questions. Now, Republican leaders are trying to rush this confirmation through the Senate -- and denying Democrats' request to review Pete Hegseth's FBI background documents. That's unacceptable.
