Under normal conditions, Microsoft is like the federal government: Jobs are seemingly for life. Layoffs aren't unheard of at Microsoft, but they're rare enough occurrences. Mini's timing makes sense, right when Microsoft would be doing midyear reviews and a week before fiscal 2009 second quarter results are announced.
