| What Anne Burrell Will Do Next (in TV Land, Anyway) |
With Anne Burrell out at Centro Vinoteca, the only place you're going to see her cooking is on TV. And (ding! ding!) the Food Network has just sent us the schedule for the upcoming season of Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, which will run at the ungodly hour of 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays starting October 11. For better or worse, no show about the secrets of "big-girl soda." Read More » |

| The Box Responds to Allegations; Gawker Backtracks on Calling it a ‘Slum’ Run by ‘Slime’ |
After initially staying mum, the owners of the Box, perhaps realizing some good press is in order now that their liquor license is hanging in the balance, finally defended themselves against accusations of “inhumane treatment” launched by the Porcelain TwinZ on their MySpace Page and then on BlackBook magazine’s Website. Partner Randy Weiner tells the Times that the show might be sexy and transgressive, but rumors of everything from sexual harassment to in-house prostitution are false: “That’s not the way we run our business.” Read More » |

| First Look: Inside Walter Foods |
Walter Foods in Williamsburg opens officially tomorrow, and we've got some advance photos. The green leather banquettes, dark bar, and exposed beams are well suited to Danny Minch's classic cocktail menu, but are the heavy tones more "midtown manly" than "Williamsburg casual"? View the slideshow and judge for yourself. |

| Take This Java and Shove It |
| Ad agency Wieden & Kennedy is quitting the Starbucks account, apparently owing to the brand’s micromanagement and its tendency, perhaps because of an apparent distrust of ad agencies, to be in bed with more than one of them at once. [Ad Age via Gawker] |

| Meatpuking District |
| Maybe Jermaine Dupri should’ve stuck with Cristal? Apparently he had a little too much of Jay-Z’s Ace of Spades Champagne while celebrating his birthday at Tenjune and ended up ralphing in Janet Jackson’s lap. Gross. [NYP] |

| A Wild Weekend of Shootings, Stabbings, and … Poisoning? |
It's been a rough few days for the food and beverage industry. On Saturday, a Chinese deliveryman was shot in the head in the Bronx, seemingly over an order of pork fried rice. He’ll likely survive. Later that night, a 50-man (and -woman) brawl outside of a Steinway Street reggaeton club, Tahona, left five folks hospitalized. There were also... Read More » |

| Whisk & Ladle Supper Club Outed by Food Network |
The granddaddy of them all, the Whisk & Ladle, has lately been overshadowed by other Brooklyn supper clubs: Jack, an occasional restaurant in the Brooklyn Lyceum; the Ted Allen and Amy Sedaris Supper Club (not officially endorsed by either celeb, although Ted apparently gave it passing approval); and A Razor, A Shiny Knife, to name a few. But the last e-mail we got from the group had some piquant news. Read More » |
