Lifehacker Lead Editor: Gina Trapani to Adam Pash

Lifehacker is one of the most widely read blogs in the blogosphere and the new year brings a change in guard wherein lead editor Gina Trapani hands over charge to Adam Pash.

Mr. Adam Pash will take over as lead editor of Lifehacker on January 16th. After a wild and woolly four years at the helm, I’m stepping down from the site lead position to work on Some New Stuff on a day-to-day basis in 2009. To be clear, my decision has nothing to do with the big bad economy or any kind of scandalous company blow-up—it’s just time for me to move onto new projects. It’s tough letting go of something I love so dearly, but it’s easier knowing it will be in very capable hands. No one knows the ins and outs of this site and its community as well as Adam, who’s been posting away at my side for over three years now.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs Suffers Weight Loss, Hormone Imbalance

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has clarified he is suffering from weight loss and hormone imbalance in a press release and says he will get well soon, putting to rest baseless rumors about his health.

Apple had announced earlier that Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, will deliver the opening keynote for this year's Macworld Conference & Expo at San Francisco's Moscone Center on January 6, 2009 (and not Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, like before), and it will be Apple's last keynote at the show.

These official statements were enough to start rumors about his health issues. Apparently Steve had undergone rare pancreatic cancer surgery in 2004 and later declared cured. Rumors stressed that weight loss meant that maybe the pancreatic cancer symptoms were recurring.

Steve Jobs clarifies that it is indeed a health issue and he continues as Apple CEO.

As many of you know, I have been losing weight throughout 2008. The reason has been a mystery to me and my doctors. A few weeks ago, I decided that getting to the root cause of this and reversing it needed to become my #1 priority.

Fortunately, after further testing, my doctors think they have found the cause—a hormone imbalance that has been "robbing" me of the proteins my body needs to be healthy. Sophisticated blood tests have confirmed this diagnosis.

The remedy for this nutritional problem is relatively simple and straightforward, and I've already begun treatment. But, just like I didn't lose this much weight and body mass in a week or a month, my doctors expect it will take me until late this Spring to regain it. I will continue as Apple's CEO during my recovery.

The Apple board has also spoken out in support.

As we have said before, if there ever comes a day when Steve wants to retire or for other reasons cannot continue to fulfill his duties as Apple's CEO, you will know it.

Apple is very lucky to have Steve as its leader and CEO, and he deserves our complete and unwavering support during his recuperation. He most certainly has that from Apple and its Board.

All these official statements will surely ease the pressure on Apple executives when hundreds of queries and baseless rumors would have flooded Macworld Expo. At least now the show can go on… or maybe it will step up more serious concerns.

2009 Bloggies Weblog Awards Open

The ninth annual weblog awards - Bloggies 2009 are now open for nominations. The annual non-profit ceremony celebrates the best in blogging and are the web’s longest-running blog awards.

The nominations will close on January 12, 2009, after which 200 randomly selected voters receive an invitation to choose the finalists from a list of the most-nominated weblogs in ten random categories. After the finalist voting closes, the finalists are announced and voting reopens to all to choose the winners.

The categories for Best American Weblog, Best Art or Craft Weblog and Best GLBT Weblog are no more and have been replaced by new categories like Best Art, Craft, or Design Weblog, Best Travel Weblog and Best Microblog.

The Weblog Awards ceremony will be held at the South by Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas, USA in March, where the Weblog of the Year will receive 2,009 US cents. You read that right, its $20.09!
