Virtualization makes for strange bedfellows, while cloud computing runs into some foul IT weather.
Microsoft Partners with Citrix on Virtualization
Right after signing a similar pact with Red Hat, Microsoft moved to further contain VMware by partnering with Citrix on virtualization as well. At the same time, VMware turned around to partner with Intel on virtualization in the same way that Citrix did a few weeks back. VMware also rolled out vShield security appliances and upgraded the high availability capabilities of vCenter, while also reiterating its plans for virtualization in the world of cloud computing. And finally, the company is also expanding its training efforts around virtualization as well.

  Cloud Computing Forecast Gets Choppy
A new survey finds that resistance to cloud computing is pretty high despite some obvious advantages as security and control remain major issues. In the meantime, Microsoft is plowing ahead with Azure and Red Dog, while Red Hat gets ready to stake its claim and Sun outlines its strategy. Of course, the real winner in all this may be smaller startup companies that focus on relatively simply things like backup and recovery services.
  Drums along the Data Center
Juniper and Cisco are vowing to recast the data center as part of an effort to dramatically lower costs. But it's unclear how the rest of the industry is going to respond to their overtures. In the meantime, Cisco picked up Accenture as an ally, while Paglo is arguing that the best way to lower costs is to leverage systems management as a service rather than something deployed on-premise.
  Emulex Looks to Transform Storage
A new generation of storage controllers from Emulex promises to bring new levels of command and control to storage virtualization.
Microsoft Pushes Further into Data Warehouse Space
The folks in Redmond are expanding their assault against IBM and Oracle in the data warehouse space at the same time Sybase is also upgrading its offerings and Netezza moved to acquire Tizor Systems. In the meantime, the real question is why don't more developers simply embed business intelligence capabilities inside their applications in the first place?
Latest Versions of Windows 7 and Vista Near
New Windows updates are expected soon with more than 2,000 bugs already addressed in Windows 7, but a debate over the value of user account controls may continue to stall adoption. Here are some tips about how to deal with it more effectively. Meanwhile, in the realm of vendor politics, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer scoffed at market share gains being made by Apple, while the courts said a lawsuit over what it means to be "Vista Capable" can proceed, but not as a class-action suit , despite some interesting claims to the contrary.
Health Care IT Needs More Innovation
There's obviously a lot of talk about health care IT emanating out of Washington and IBM, but there seems to be an absence of innovation in the space. In the meantime, here are some tips on how to manage electronic health records.
Study Finds a General Failure to Communicate
At a time when IT organizations are concerned about increasing the productivity of a smaller work force, it turns out that the communications infrastructure in most companies is basically broken.
