NEW SEGA GAME CONSOLES RUN WINDOWS
Sega has adopted the Windows Embedded Standard (WES) 2009 operating
system for its latest arcade gaming consoles. The "RingEdge" and
"RingWide" platforms, in production now and set to hit arcades later
this year, will offer operators a cost savings of at least 30 percent,
Sega says.

MOBILE DEVICE RUNS WINDOWS AND ANDROID SIMULTANEOUSLY
VMware has demonstrated Windows CE and Google's Android running side by
side on a single mobile device (left). The underlying "Mobile
Virtualization Platform (MVP)" technology, which includes a "hypervisor"
only about 20KB in size, is now complete and being evaluated by handset
manufacturers, VMware says.

T-MOBILE SPINS NEW WINDOWS PHONES
T-Mobile has announced two new Windows smartphones sporting WVGA (800 x
480) displays. The MDA Compact V and MDA Vario V (left) offer 528MHz
processors, autofocus cameras, GPS, Bluetooth, and the Opera Mobile 9.5
web browser.

WINDOWS PHONE SPORTS FLASH INTERFACE
Gigabyte Communications announced a new smartphone that will wrap
Windows Mobile 6.5 in a custom "SmartZone" user interface built using
Adobe's Flash technology. The "S1200" is just 0.45 inches thick, and
offers a 3.1-inch touchscreen display, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a three
megapixel camera.

TI DIE-SHRINKS OMAP3
TI has announced four additions to its OMAP3 family of ARM SoCs
(system-on-chips). The new OMAP36xx series switches to a 45nm production
process, delivering speeds up to 1GHz, a 25 percent reduction in power
consumption, and 75 percent better graphics performance, says TI.

WINDOWS MOBILE 6.5 GETS MIXED REVIEWS
Microsoft announced its revised operating system for smartphones,
Windows Mobile 6.5 (left), at this week's Mobile World Congress (MWC) in
Spain. The upgrade has since received a variety of critical reactions,
ranging from "great" to "an acceptable bump in the version number" to
"misses the mark."

AMPED BLUETOOTH READY FOR TAKEOFF
A new technology combining the easy setup of Bluetooth with the high
speed of WiFi will go on the market in April, reports say. AMP
(alternate MAC/PHY) Bluetooth will apparently be compatible with some
existing Windows Mobile phones (left) via a simple software upgrade.

DELL NETBOOK SPORTS HDMI PORT
Dell has announced a netbook sporting both a 10-inch display and an HDMI
(high definition multimedia interface) output. The Inspiron Mini 10
includes a 1.3GHz Atom Z520 or 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor, 1.3 megapixel
webcam, Bluetooth, WiFi, and Windows XP.

MICROSOFT ANNOUNCES WES 2009 CERTIFICATION
Microsoft announced a certification exam it says can validate the
skills and experience of Windows Embedded Standard (2009) operating
system users. MPC #70-577 is available now in six languages, with
downloadable "prep" kits due in English this March, or this June for the
other five languages.
