Men typically parlay vast experience into self-serving
benefits -- Dick Cheney used political connects to become
Halliburton CEO, then used Halliburton connects to become
VP, then used VP connects for the ultimate prize,
blamelessly shooting a dude in the face. Selflessly
leveraging his connections to keep you in menswear, Ken Barber.
From his brick, wood, and concrete boutique, Barber sells
premium casually conservative overstock from the US, Europe,
and Asia at least 30-50% less than comparable stores -- an
arrangement made possible through broker/manufacturer
connections garnered from 25 years experience and mad retail
cred (he was the first ATL Saks employee to sell $1 million
in merch). Brands (Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, etc) rotate every
two-three weeks, with the current Armani-heavy stock priced
at $850 or less for full suits (normally $2k-plus) and
just-jackets at up to 60% off the $1k suggested retail; more
casually, there's knitwear and jackets from Nove and
Stonerose, and $75-$110 denim from brands like Agave and
Five Four -- a name that tortuously references "one love"
(5-4=one), though without the minus sign, you could just as
easily fall into "unrequited 9". Barber also sells an
eponymous line of formal wear and tuxes (super 150-count
threading) and Egyptian cotton button-downs ($150-$225) cut
to feel tailored but not too tight, thus avoiding the
dreaded "Under Armour Office Collection" look.
Also at the store: product from the classy yet no-frills
grooming brand Woody's, including shaving gel, after-shave
moisturizer, "Meat & Potatoes" soap, and body spray -- in
shotgun terms, think of that last one as the penultimate prize.
