Dark Blue Sea CEO Richard Moore Steps Down

April 1st is always a day full of fun at DNN.com, but we were disappointed to read elsewhere about news at DomainNameWire which turned out not to be part of an April Fool’s joke. As per a company press release (PDF), Dark Blue Sea CEO Richard Moore has announced that he will be stepping down as CEO.

Moore who has been CEO of DBS since 2001 will be stepping down from the position, but plans to stay involved with the company as an executive director on a 1/2 time basis. His roles will be to focus on corporate strategy and development, investor relations and high level relationship management with major partners, customers and suppliers.

Dark Blue Sea CFO Gregory Platz will be taking over the CEO position effective July 1st, 2009. Platz has worked with the company for 1o years and in fact helped Dean Shannon found the company back in 1999. Moore told us that Platz “knows everything about the (DBS) domain business.” Moore and the DBS board are very confident in Platz’s abilities to move the company forward.

We wish Richard and Dark Blue Sea the best during this transition.

Bido’s Charity Auction Raises Over $7000 For Arizona Animal Sanctuary

Bido, which used a charity auction to sell a long list of animal related domain names and other items for $2120, has raised over $7000 in total for Hacienda de los Milagros, an animal sanctuary in Arizona, thanks to the generous bids and donations from many within the domain industry.

“In Arizona, people have been hit hard by the economy, and many aren’t able to feed their animals, and they’re simply turning them loose. The shelters have become swamped and rescue places have been hit the hardest. Many have had to shut down and others are scrambling to take their animals to help.

The particular place we’re donating these auction proceeds to, Hacienda de los Milagros, rescues burros and horses, mainly wild animals that would otherwise be slaughtered…the economy has hit the rescue with the trickle down effect of almost no donations lately. They were down to one days feed on hand, and by some immediate fundraising they have now saved several days worth of food. it takes $500 a day to feed the animals there, and that doesn’t take into account the vet bills. The local vet has already donated many thousands of dollars in care as the shelter just can’t pay.

This is not an adoption center, but rather, it’s a forever home and the head caretaker lives a sparse existence, pursuing his love for the animals. He also provides a home for animals when their owners die or are ill. The circumstances are dire and the need is immediate.”
