Having a club is great, right up until you're dragging a
body of a raver who aspirated a glowstick to the dumpster
wrapped in a carpet. Going old-fashioned, the owners of
Lansdowne Pub, open now.
The result of the grown-up idea to "offer something more
traditional", LP's the newest piece from a group who brought
you Lansdowne clubs like the old Avalon, Axis, and more: an
Irish pub/old-timey saloon hybrid created by stripping the
Jake Ivory's piano bar down to its exposed brick walls and
installing a 64-foot imported Irish wood bar, working
fireplaces, faux candle chandeliers, vintage whiskey
posters, a stage, covered outdoor seating, and more bar
mirrors per capita than any spot in Boston. Hearty Gaelic
fare includes traditional homemade pot pies (chicken, fish,
or Guinness-marinated-beef), a cider-pork-sauce-slathered
double cut pork chop w/ blue cheese potato cakes, and an
eggs, bacon, black pudding, bangers 'n' beans breakfast
that's fueled many an Irishman for a grueling day of rock
tossin'. Other winners include the turkey, roast beef, and
cheddar-topped ploughman's lunch salad; fresh oysters on the
half-shell and skillet-seared mussels dunked in salted olive
oil; and the battered sausage supper with fries and
batchelor's beans, which sound good in theory, but get oh so
lonely on Sunday nights.
Because it is a pub, they're stocking top-shelf whiskeys
(Bushmills 21, Middleton Rare, etc) and an impressive 44
brews (12 draft/32 bottles, all served in the appropriate
glassware), including Belhaven, Carlsberg, and Duvel -- all
meaning the happy owners will be content to only have to
drag patrons to the gutter.
