LA Craft Beer Festival

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then
improving on someone's idea is the sincerest form of telling
them that even though you like them, you're much smarter.
For imitation/enhancement involving alcohol, check out
Saturday's LA Craft Beer Festival.
Following closely in the hoppy footsteps of last month's
sold-out LA Beer Festival, the Craft Beer Fest's organized
by a different crew of suds snobs, who've decided to up the
ante with local bands, beery panels, and gourmet food
pairings, all intended to make the event more than just a
display of drunken buffoonery, which is adorable. Entry gets
you 15 3oz pours of mostly tiny-brewery Cali beer, with
participants including Santa Barbara's
local-ingredient-driven Telegraph Brewery, Petaluma's
high-ABV specialist Lagunitas, and San Diego's Blind Lady,
who blames all her bad decisions on "beer headphones".
Included-w/-admission food's provided by local notables like
Echo Park's Masa (deep-dish pizza), Fairfax's Golden State
(lemony Persian cucumber salad), and K-town's Scoops,
serving stout-flavored ice cream; there'll also be an
interactive presentation on beer/cheese pairing from the Hot
Knives food blog guys, who've won five medals at LA's annual
Grilled Cheese Invitational, dashing any fears that they're
those snobby types who know what wine is.
There'll also be a panel discussion with brewers called
"Craft Beer: Past, Present, and Future", and music from
bands including hyperactive surf rockers The Muertones and
bluegrassy Cliff Wagner and the Old #7, who appeared on
American Idol imitator The Next Great American Band, whose
short-lived run proved sometimes, you just can't improve on
perfection.
Proceeds all go to charity, and over 100 tickets'll be
