New Must-Haves for Marketing and PR Pros Posted: 02 Aug 2009 02:30 AM PDT I’ve got two books for you to pick up, depending on whether you’re a PR professional or a marketer looking to make use of the social web. Both are books by friends, so discount my impression a little bit, and decide for yourself. They are (amazon affiliate links) Putting the Public Back in Public Relations by Brian Solis and Deirdre Breakenridge, and The New Community Rules: Marketing on the Social Web, by Tamar Weinberg. Both excellent books for PR or marketing professionals. |
Why I Am Not Presenting at PodCamp Boston Posted: 01 Aug 2009 09:49 PM PDT I’m excited to attend PodCamp Boston, an event I co-founded with Christopher S. Penn. Our next event is August 8th and 9th in Boston. I’ve decided not to speak formally at PodCamp Boston so that others can have the stage. Why? Because it’s one of the MAIN TENETS of PodCamp: that everyone is a rockstar. To make that more so, I’d rather just be there and see what you’ve got going on. I’ll particpate and help in any ways possible, but no presentation. See you there? |
Effective Immediately- No More Auto-Follow Posted: 01 Aug 2009 09:29 PM PDT If I’m not following you on Twitter, please send an @message to request. I’ll follow as many back as I can. Effective immediately, I’m no longer going to follow people back on Twitter automatically. The reason is simple: Twitter would rather permit 3rd party applications to empower users to direct message me their stupid spam messages. The #1 culprit of this experience is http://www.fun140.com . (To be clear, fun140 believes they’re empowering a really fun way to use Twitter. Swell. Just don’t involve me.) The problem is this: I can’t really keep up with manually following people back. Thus, suddenly, people are going to start thinking I’m snobby because I’m not following them back. I can’t fix this. I can’t help. I can’t maintain the level of spam DMs in my inbox and so, I’ll do what I can to follow back people who contact me via @messages. Sorry. It’s not you. It’s me. |
