FIRST STEP ON THE MOON
Slightly delayed, the Monnaie de Paris (French Mint) has finallymoon released its much-awaited tribute to the men of Apollo 11, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Neil Armstrong's first step on the moon with a beautiful design! Just about anyone who was alive then probably remembers where they were on that July 20, 1969.

Astronaut Neil Armstrong flew "Eagle," the lunar lander, to the moon along with fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin. Michael Collins orbited the moon in the Apollo 11 command module. People around the world watched and listened as Armstrong slowly climbed down the ladder of the lunar lander. Then, he stepped on the moon's surface where he could look up and see Earth far above him. There he said these well-known words, "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." The famous photo of the boot print on the moon was taken by Buzz Aldrin on July 21, 1969.

Recent French issues have also included coins for one of the world's most famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, namely Moscow's Kremlin & Red Square, the annual EURO Proof Coin Set, the €2 EMU 10 Years proof and €2 EMU 10 Years BU versions of this year's commemorative circulating coin (please choose your desired quality from the drop-down box on the product page), and finally the €10 silver (sold out) and €25 silver (few left) circulating coins.

NEW MASTERPIECES OF ART ISSUES
The very popular series entitled "Masterpieces of Art" poetcontinues in September with Carl Spitzweg`s masterpiece Poor Poet and in November with Raphael’s legendary Sistine Madonna.

The series features silver coins dedicated to famous works-of-art that are masterfully recreated in full color. The 3 ounce coins measure more than 2 inches in diameter so the detail is clearly visible. madonnaAbove and below the artwork are genuine Swarovski crystals inlaid into the coin's surface. The obverse is common to the entire series and shows an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Each coin is presented in an elegant jewel case with certificate of authenticity confirming the very limited mintage of around 1,000 coins per issue.

Previous coins have honored Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper & the Mona Lisa, Botticelli's Birth of Venus, Rembrandt's Night Watch, and Rafael's School of Athens. Most of the previous issues have sold out fairly quickly, and are no longer available from RSM.

RSM receives only small allotments of these pieces, and will sell them at the lowest price allowed by the manufacturer, currently $459.95 each. Shipping is FREE by Express Mail worldwide. The coins are not yet allowed to be published on the web site, but we are taking pre-orders by email

SPANISH PAINTERS: SALVADOR DALI
The Spanish Mint has now released the second series of coins dalidedicated to Spanish painters. The series was initiated last year with the issue for Velazquez , and this time the theme is Salvador Dali on the 20th anniversary of his death. The release consists of four silver coins, issued both individually and in a 4-coin complete set. The obverse is common to all three €10 coins and depicts the collage «Self-Portrait with "L'Humanité"» (1923), while the three reverses show the oil paintings "Portrait of Pablo Picasso in the 21st Century" (1947) and "Automatic Beginning of a Portrait of Gala" (1932) , as well as the porcelain object "Retrospective Bust of a Woman" (1933) in beautiful detail. The 5 ounce (€50) coin features two further oil paintings, namely "The Spectre of Sex Appeal" (1934) on the obverse, and "The Temptation of St. Anthony" (1946) on the reverse.

With an issue limit that is 60% lower than the Salvador Dali issues from 2004 - celebrating the 100th anniversary of the painter's birth - these coins will most likely be very popular among collectors.

EURO ADOPTION SCHEDULE
The previously announced euro adoption dates for Lithuania (2010) and Estonia (2011) might be in jeopardy. Both countries – along with Latvia – are struggling with inflation well above the 4.2% EMU upper limit, and it has been indicated that 2013 might be a more fitting adoption schedule for all three of these countries. As neither Central Bank has changed its official information, we will still list the below dates even though they most likely will not be met:

» 2010: Lithuania, Andorra (by monetary agreement)
» 2011: Estonia
» 2012: Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland
» 2013: Czech Republic, Latvia
» 2014: Romania
