It's October 1st, so we've officially entered Halloween month:every year brings more Halloween events at theme parks, museums, resorts, railroads -- see below for a new trend in Halloween trains. We've also got cool things to do in Utah, and some eyebrow-raising report cards for cruise lines.

Halloween Train Rides
Kids love choo-choos, and more and more tourist railroads are running themed holiday trains. Christmas train rides are the main type, but Halloween trains are pulling out of the station too. Some trains take kids to a pumpkin patch: and -- in a tour de force of theming -- fans of the Peanuts classic comic strip can even ride with Snoopy and other characters on "The Great Pumpkin Patch Express Train".

Top Things to do in Southwest Utah
Hop a flight to Las Vegas and make that glitzy city your gateway to the natural wonders of southwest Utah: awesome National Parks; fantastical rock formations; star-gazing; mule rides and horse-riding into canyons, and more. Bonus for the budget: free hikes and other programs in Bryce and Zion National Parks, both part of the "Grand Circle" loop of stunning scenery. (By the way, Las Vegas has some family-friendly attractions, too.)

Cruise Ships Enviromental Report Card
Googling "cruise ships environmental impacts" is like coloring dark clouds on a photo of the Love Boat: things aren't so sunny when you start talking sewage treatment and air pollution. But at least cruisers can now compare the practices of different cruise lines, with this "Cruise Ship Report Card" prepared by an environmental group. Holland America Lines, for instance, gets "A" for Sewage Treatment. But some high-flying players get some low-riding scores...
