Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer suggested during the company's Venture Capital Summit that it had made mistakes in the execution of its Windows Mobile operating system, according to attendees at the closed-door meeting. Despite a massive push accompanying Windows Mobile 6.5's release on Oct. 6, Microsoft finds itself in something of an uphill battle for mobile OS market share against Apple, Palm and other competitors already in the space.

Google Irks Android Developers with Cyanogen Move
Google has created uproar among Android developers by calling out a so-called "modder" for creating a firmware modification known as CyanogenMod that bundles some of Google's proprietary applications. At issue is Google's commitment to openness and developer perception of how well the company is managing that commitment.

Motorola Cliq Smartphone with Android to Debut Oct. 19
T-Mobile USA says it will begin selling Motorola's Cliq smartphone, running the Android mobile OS, on Oct. 19 to existing customers at $199 plus a two-year service contract. Sales to the general public will begin Nov. 4. The Cliq comes with Motorola's Motoblur syncing solution.
