Need to get rid of those unwanted holiday pounds? Want to explore a new and improved diet plan? Do I sound like a commercial? Well, I'm sorry, but I don't have an old or a new plan that works any better than any other plan. I'll give you one tip though. It's got to be much easier for anyone to control their weight if they aren't in the food business.

I hope you enjoy my one and only newsletter devoted to dieting and desserts.

Super Foods
2010 Photo by Carroll Pellegrinelli, licensed to About.com.Get the biggest "bang for your buck" meaning "bang" for your dessert calories. Choose recipes that make nutrient dense desserts such as those made with super foods or ingredients. This way you still get to eat a treat, but it's got ingredients in it that are good for you. This week's recipe is chocked-full of nutrients. Plus, it could be adapted for lower sugar and fat calories.

Easiest Diet Desserts Ever
2010 Photo by Carroll Pellegrinelli, licensed to About.com.Being a life-long dieter, like many of you I'm sure, the easiest and probably lowest calorie desserts are made with gelatins like JELL-O. They have all kinds of flavors in the sugar-free versions, which are naturally fat-free. My favorite way to jazz-up plain gelatin is to make it with a diet soda.

Recipe of the Week
Fresh Blueberry Cheesecake
1-1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1-1/4 cup sugar, divided
6 tablespoons butter, melted
----
40 ounces cream cheese, softened
3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 cup sour cream
4 eggs
----
2 cups blueberries, rinsed and dried

The day before or before noon, preheat oven to 325 degrees F. (25 degrees F less if using glass or dark metal pan). Lightly grease (spray and wipe out) 9x13 pan. Combine graham crackers, 1/4 cup sugar and melted butter. Press crust mixture into pan. Bake for 12-15 minutes. While baking, beat cream cheese and 1 cup sugar. Add flour and vanilla. Mix well. Add sour cream. Mix. Add eggs one at a time. Mix until just combined. Don't over beat. Pour batter over crust. In a food processor, crust 1 cup blueberries. Hand stir-in last cup blueberries. Spoon berries over cheesecake batter. Draw knife through mixture to create marble effect. Bake for 50 minutes or until done. Center should wiggle a little. Completely cool on wire rack. Refrigerate 4 hours or overnight.

This cheesecake is great because it's loaded with protein and antioxidants. Still want to lower the calories in this dessert? I don't suggest using all low or non-fat ingredients, but you could replace half of the regular with those versions. Same thing with the sugar, just replace some of it with an artificial sweetener. Replace one or two of the eggs with egg substitute or 2 egg whites for 1 whole egg. As far as the graham cracker crust goes, it could be skipped entirely or use some artificial sweetener in it.
