Putting together a golf vacation can be a hassle: between
their popularity and reservation policies, the best courses
can be as unattainable as the very pins you'd so desperately
whack towards if only given the chance. Helping to get you
on those greens, Austin Golf Trail.
This recently launched "golfing concierge" leverages
partnerships to arrange discounted, customizable links +
lodging packages centered around tough-to-book Hill Country
courses; the idea was hatched by a local pro who'd noticed
the rounds played at area clubs had leveled off despite
golf's popularity spike, and figured who better to pick up
the slack than out-of-towners like you, McNichol, Kevin, and
"The Goose". To set up 2- to 5-day itineraries (called
white/blue/gold/black tees), call or fill in the online form
asking for dates/budget/no. of players/add'l expectations,
after which a golf-savvy travel expert will follow up to
suss your needs more exactly; plans start below $500, and
depending on selections, savings can come out to 15-20%,
money wife-abandoning golf addicts can put towards their
Rocco Divorce Mediation. The 15 courses include Barton Creek
(featuring vaunted semi-privates Fazio Foothills and
Canyons), Horseshoe Bay (Slick, Apple, and Ram Rock), and
Lost Pines' Wolfdancer, as well as upscale public links like
Avery Ranch (best cart girls in Texas), Grey Rock, and Star
Ranch; the nine partner hotels include the resorts, plus
Austin's Wyndham Garden, Inter-Continental Stephen F.
Austin, and downtown Hampton Inn, assuming Casey Hampton
hasn't booked it to capacity with only his left quadricep.
Packages can be extended to 10 days, and private clubs can
be got (Austin Country Club, UT Golf Club...); to round
things out, they'll also snag you venue tickets in Austin,
which they call "ultimate 19th Hole" -- if your "venue" is
Yellow and Rosy, then you'll really have something to whack
towards.
Packages include taxes; free hotel upgrades when available.
