FRISCO, TEXAS (June 1, 2010) - Beginning today, the US Youth Soccer National League http://www.usyouthsoccer.org/link.asp?l=7&mid=698003&lid=109255 is accepting applications /nationalleagueapplication.asp for the 2010-2011 seasonal year that goes from Sept. 1, 2010 to Aug. 31, 2011. Applications are due Friday, July 9, 2010, at 5 p.m. ET.

The National League consists of Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 Boys and Girls. Sixteen teams will qualify in each gender age group with teams earning slots primarily from play in their respective US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues [i.e. US Youth Soccer Region I (East) Premier League, US Youth Soccer Midwest Regional League, US Youth Soccer Region III (South) Premier League and the US Youth Soccer Far West Regional League] or through previous National League qualification.

The top four Under-15 and Under-16 finishers from the 2009-2010 National League season have earned the opportunity to retain their slots for the 2010-2011 season, providing teams meet all eligibility requirements. Also earning a place in the 2010-2011 National League season are the four 2010 US Youth Soccer Regional Champions in the Under-14 through Under-16 gender age groups. The remaining slots will be filled by teams that have either achieved success in their respective Regional League or were a semifinalist at the 2010 Regional Championships. For those remaining slots, the Under-15 age group will have three per region and the Under-16 and Under-17 age groups will have two per region. If region-specific allocated slots are not filled by applicants in a given region, the National League Committee shall select a team from all entries to replace the region-specific allocated slot.

All teams who would like to participate in the National League must submit an application and pay the team fee, which is returned if the team is not accepted.

Team applications will be reviewed by its US Youth Soccer Regional Director who will make recommendations to the National League concerning those teams. The National League Committee will select the sixteen teams in each gender age group.

Each gender age group will be split into two eight-team divisions featuring teams from each of US Youth Soccer's four regions competing in round robin play within each division. The seven game season will begin with boys’ competition Nov. 18-21 and girls’ Dec. 2-5 in Wilson, N.C., followed by participation in one of two other locations per gender consisting of boys’ competition Feb. 19-21 in Florida and girls’ Dec. 31-Jan 2 in Orlando, Fla., the final play date will combine boys and girls in late March with specific dates and location announced at a later date.

The first place team from each of the two divisions from each age group will earn a slot to the 2011 US Youth Soccer National Championships http://www.usyouthsoccer.org/link.asp?l=8&mid=698003&lid=109255 along with the four US Youth Soccer Regional Champions.

Since its inception, National League representatives have captured a combined eight National Championships. In 2008, seven of the eight championship finals slots in the Under-15 and 16 age groups were won by National League teams, which resulted in the League's first four National Championships. The League notched four more National Championship titles in 2009 including the Under-15 Boys (Baltimore Casa Mia Bays) and Girls (San Diego Surf) as well as Under-16 Boys (Dallas Texans 93 Red) and Under-17 Girls (Eclipse Select).
Teams for the 2010-2011 National League season are expected to be announced the week of Aug. 2, 2010.
