U.S. singles happier with sex than married WASHINGTON (UPI) -- Dating U.S. singles age 45 and older report they are happier with their sex lives than those the same age who are married, an AARP survey indicates. Forty-eight percent of dating singles say they have sexual intercourse at least once a week, compared with 36 percent of married couples. Sixty percent of single daters say they are satisfied with their sex lives compared with 52 percent of married couples, the survey says. However, only one-in-five sexually active dating singles day say they use condoms regularly to prevent sexually transmitted diseases. Eighty-five percent of men and 61 percent of women agree with the statement that "sex is a necessary component to living a happy and healthy life, and sexual satisfaction plays a critical role in relationships and overall quality of life." The top predictor of sexual satisfaction is frequency of sexual intercourse with 84 percent saying more than once a week is ideal, while 59 percent say they are satisfied with sex once or twice a month, the survey says. For AARP, Knowledge Networks surveyed 1,670 adults age 45 and older from Aug. 21 to Sept. 14, 2009, via a telephone-recruited online panel in both English and Spanish. High school students admit to cheating LINCOLN, Neb. (UPI) -- A small study of U.S. high school students indicates teens understand what constitutes cheating, but they do it anyway, researchers say. Researchers at Kenneth Kiewra, a professor of educational psychology at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, alumna Kelly Honz and Ya-Shu Yang of the University of Connecticut analyzed data from an anonymous survey of 100 students in a large Midwestern high school. "They cheat on tests, homework assignments and when writing reports," Kiewra says in a statement. Eighty-night percent of the students say glancing at someone else's answers during a test was cheating and 87 percent say they have it done it at least once. Ninety-four percent say providing answers to someone during a test was cheating and 74 percent admitted to doing it at least once. However, 47 percent say sharing test questions with another student who hasn't taken a test was academically dishonest, but nearly 70 percent admit doing it at least once. Divulging test answers was perhaps perceived more dishonestly than divulging test questions because receiving test questions still requires some effort to find the answers, Kiewra suggests. Thirty-nine percent of the students say writing a report based on the movie instead of reading the book was not cheating and 53 percent say they have done it at least once. A woman's touch may spur taking more risks NEW YORK (UPI) -- People who were touched felt more secure and took bigger risks than those who weren't, but only by a woman, U.S. and Canadian researchers said. Jonathan Levav of Columbia University in New York and Jennifer J. Argo of the University of Alberta conducted the study involving risks, such as investing money or taking a gamble after they were greeted with a light, comforting touch on the shoulder; a handshake' or no physical contact at all by either a female or male experimenter. The study participants also completed a questionnaire. The study, published in the journal Psychological Science, found those touched felt more secure and took bigger risks than those who weren't, but only if touched by a woman and especially if the women touched the back instead of shaking hands. Male touching had no impact. The researchers speculated that the comfort from the touch of a woman may hark back to mothers who patted their children to comfort them. The findings suggested a woman's touch can make people feel more secure and more willing to take risks, the study said. Copyright 2010 by United Press International

Women who marry younger men die earlier ROSTOCK, Germany (UPI) -- Older women with younger husbands have a shorter life expectancy while older men who marry younger women tend to live longer, a German researcher said. Having a partner seven years younger increases a woman's chances of dying earlier by 20 percent, said Sven Drefahl, a sociologist at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Rostock, Germany. "The greater the age difference, the lower the wife's life expectancy," Drefahl said. "The best choice for a woman is to marry a man of exactly the same age." As for men, the mortality risk of a man seven to nine years older than his wife was reduced by 11 percent when compared with couples the same age, The Daily Telegraph reported Thursday. So-called Cougars -- women who date or marry younger men -- may experience more stress and reduced health because they are "violating social norms and thus suffer from social sanctions," said Drefahl, who based his results on a study of 2 million Danish couples.
