(UPI) -- A team from Waipahu, Hawaii, won the U.S. championship game of the Little League World Series Saturday and will now face Japan. The Hawaii team was led by Noah Shackles, who went 2-for-2 with a homer, and by Ezra Heleski's two-hitter in a 10-0 victory over Pearland, Texas, at South Williamsport, Pa. The same Little League team beat Matamoros, Mexico, in 2008 to win the world championship. Meanwhile in the international championship game, Ryo Motegi's run-scoring single in the seventh provided the winning margin as Japan eked out a 3-2 victory over Chinese Taipei. Japan is looking to become the first international team to win the title since Pabao of Willemstad, Curacao, did so in 2004. (UPI) -- Anthony Dixon punched into the end zone from 1 yard out late in the fourth quarter Saturday, lifting San Francisco to a 28-24 exhibition win over Oakland. Dixon finished with 69 yards on 21 cars for the 49ers, now 3-0. Alex Smith went 9-for-15 with 113 yards and a 16-yard touchdown to Josh Morgan for the winners. San Francisco also got a 28-yard field goal from Joe Nedney and an 83-yard punt return from Phillip Adams. Bruce Gradkowski completed 14-of-22 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns for the Raiders, now 2-1. Gradkowski hit Louis Murphy for a 74-yard TD and Zach Miller for a 27-yard score. Michael Bush ran for a score but had just 23 yards on seven rushes. Sebastian Janikowski added a field goal for Oakland. (UPI) -- Bernhard Langer, seeking his fifth title of the year, carded a 9-under 63 Saturday for a one-stroke lead at the Boeing Classic after two rounds. The German wrapped up two rounds at 15-under 129, three strokes better than the tourney's previous 36-hole record, which had been held by David Eger, Morris Hatalsky, Craig Stadler and Don Pooley. Langer has already won back-to-back majors at the Senior British Open and U.S. Senior Open. Nick Price (67) notched an eagle on the par-five 18th at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge, and ended up one back at minus-14. Tom Pernice Jr. (70) held sole possession of second place four strokes further back at minus-10. Keith Fergus (67) and Hal Sutton (72) were tied for fourth at 6-under 138. Copyright 2010 by United Press International Hockey Kariya to miss upcoming NHL season WINNIPEG, Manitoba (UPI) -- Free-agent winger Paul Kariya, suffering from post-concussion syndrome, will miss the 2010-11 NHL season, his agent says. The 35-year-old veteran played the last three seasons for St. Louis. Last season he had 18 goals and 25 assists in 75 games. Kariya, who had surgery on both hips during the 2008-2009 season, also has played for Anaheim, Colorado and Nashville. He has 402 goals and 587 assists in 989 career games. (UPI) -- Dario Franchitti took a late lead and then held on Saturday to claim the Peak Antifreeze and Motor Oil Indy 300 at Chicagoland Speedway. Franchitti took a big stride toward defending his IZOD IndyCar Series title with the victory, during which he opted not to take on new tires amid a late-race round of pit stops under caution. He held off challenges from Dan Wheldon and Marco Andretti in the last 25 laps and collected his third victory of the season. Current points leader Will Power had to pit unexpectedly for fuel with four laps left and ended in 16th place. He saw his lead over Franchitti trimmed to 23 points with three races to go. Wheldon finished second, Andretti ended up in third, Ryan Hunter-Reay came in fourth and Tony Kanaan claimed the fifth spot. (UPI) -- Davy Arnaud and Jimmy Conrad scored Saturday, sending the Kansas City Wizards to a 2-0 victory over Los Angeles. Kansas City went up 1-0 in the 12th minute when Kei Kamara hurried down the right sideline and found Arnaud in the center of the box. Arnaud held off defender Omar Gonzalez and slipped the ball inside the goal. Conrad added an insurance tally in the 70th minute, redirecting an Arnaud free kick off the right post and across the Los Angeles goal line. The Wizards (7-9-5) continued a late-season playoff push, picking up their 14th point in seven games and climbing to within three points of a playoff spot. The Galaxy (13-5-4) allowed Columbus and Real Salt Lake to climb closer for the best record in the MLS. Los Angeles had 43 points, Columbus 41 and Real Salt Lake 40 following Saturday's games. (UPI) -- Sergiy Stakhovsky notched his fourth career ATP Tour title Saturday, downing Denis Istomin in the Pilot Pen Tennis event in New Haven, Conn. The ninth-seeded Stakhovsky bounced back after dropping the first set, prevailing in a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision over the 15th-seeded Istomin. After the Uzbek charged out of the gate to post a convincing first-set win, Stakhovsky turned it on and wasn't seriously challenged again. In the final set, Istomin lost his third service game and Stakhovsky held at love on his next two serves. Then, at 40-30 leading 5-4, he hit an overhead winner to take the championship. Stakhovsky won his second crown of the year after a victory in Den Bosch. He has never lost a final. Istomin was appearing in his first career final and fell short in his bid to become the first Uzbek to win an ATP event.
