HP AND HYNIX TEAM UP ON RERAM
HP and Hynix Semiconductor announced they've entered into a joint development agreement to bring memristor technology to market. Devices based on it could begin to replace random access memory (RAM) and flash within three years, and may eventually replace CPUs, too, according to the companies.

WINDOWS PHONE 7 FINALIZED
Microsoft has made its mobile operating system (OS) roll of the dice, releasing its Windows Phone 7 to manufacturing. Integration with partners' hardware, software, and networks is still underway, but internal engineering is complete, the company says.

HP NETBOOKS GET DUAL-CORE ATOMS
HP has revamped two of its netbooks to include Intel's recently announced, dual-core Atom N550 processor, along with optional Broadcom video accelerator chips. The Mini 210 and Mini 5103 both include 10.1-inch screens, and the 5103 gets an optional capacitive touchscreen designed to work with Windows 7, according to the company.

HAPTIC TECHNOLOGY TARGETS WINDOWS TABLETS
Immersion Corporation announced technology designed to enable touch feedback effects for tablets and other devices running either Windows 7 or Android. The "TouchSense 2500" solution has already been built into Toshiba's dual-screen tablet, the Libretto W100, the company adds.

NOTEBOOK HAS DUAL-CORE ATOM, DISCRETE GRAPHICS
Asus announced a mini-notebook featuring both a dual-core Intel Atom processor clocked at 1.8GHz and an Nvidia Ion GPU (graphics processing unit). The Eee PC 1215N has a 12.1-inch screen, up to 4GB of RAM, a 250GB hard disk drive, an HDMI output, and optional USB 3.0 ports, according to the company.

CAPACITIVE SCREENS WORK WITH STYLUSES, TOO
Hitachi Displays Ltd. has reportedly developed a projected capacitive touchscreen that responds either to fingers, a stylus, or gloved hands. To be shown at an October trade show in Japan, the device can respond to insulating materials including leather, wool, and artificial fibers, according to a Nikkei Electronics article.

HOTMAIL GETS EXCHANGE ACTIVESYNC SUPPORT
Microsoft has added support for the Exchange ActiveSync protocol to its Hotmail e-mail service. As a result, mail, contacts, and calendar information can now be kept in sync with Windows Mobile and Windows Phone 7 devices, Apple's iPhone/iPad, Nokia devices, and many others, according to the company.

MICROSOFT'S CLOUD SYNC GETS NEW NAME, HIDDEN FILE SUPPORT
Microsoft has decided that Windows Live Sync, its cloud-syncing service, will receive a name change -- actually, make that a name reversion -- to Windows Live Mesh. In addition, the service will now offer 5GB of free cloud-storage space, up from 2GB, and the ability to sync hidden files.

INTEL GRABS INFINEON'S WIRELESS BUSINESS
After months of rumors and speculation, Intel is buying Infineon Technologies? wireless solutions (WLS) unit, its latest move to expand beyond its traditional server and PC processor business. Customers for Infineon's wireless chip business currently include Apple, Nokia, and Samsung.

The Canadian company ExoPC has announced on-sale dates and revised specifications for the Windows 7 tablet it has equipped with a customized user interface. The device now sports an 11.6-inch touchscreen, 32GB or 64GB of flash storage, a mini-HDMI output, a Broadcom video processor, and Intel's Atom N450 CPU, according to the company.

HYBRID SOLUTION CRAMS FLASH STORAGE INTO DIMM SLOTS
Viking Modular announced an unusual way of adding SSD (solid state disk) storage to an embedded device or server. The company's SATADIMM is claimed to pack from 25GB to 400GB of flash storage into an unused, 240-pin DIMM socket.

INTEL LOWERS FORECASTS AMIDST WEAKENING CONSUMER DEMAND
After two extremely strong financial quarters, Intel says it is reducing revenue estimates for the third quarter of its 2010 financial year. Attributed to a softening in the consumer PC market, the forecast comes as the latest blow to an increasingly shaky economy.

Gigabyte is offering a netbook that sports both Intel's new, dual-core Atom N550 processor and a swiveling display. The T1005M includes a capacitive multi-touch screen with 1366 x 768 resolution, 320GB of hard disk storage, an ExpressCard slot, and an optional HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) cellular modem, according to industry sources.

NEXT-GEN ARM CORES BREAK MEMORY BARRIER, ADD HYPERVISOR SUPPORT
ARM Holdings has provided new details about its next-generation Cortex-A series processor core, currently code-named "Eagle." In a presentation at the "Hot Chips" conference, the company described relevant extensions to its ARMv7-A architecture, including hypervisor extensions and the ability to address more than 4GB of RAM.
