High school lockdown caused by squirrel

COLUMBUS, Ohio (UPI) -- Police in Ohio said a high school was locked down for about a half hour due to the sound that resulted when a squirrel caused a transformer malfunction.

Columbus police said Brookhaven High School was locked down shortly after 8 a.m. Monday following the gunshot-like sound but the lockdown was lifted shortly after 8:30 a.m., when investigators discovered the sound was caused by the squirrel, WCMH-TV, Columbus, Ohio, reported.

Celeb-inspired names big in New York

NEW YORK (UPI) -- The New York City Health Department said the top baby names for the city in 2009 included celebrity- inspired choices such as Scarlett, Chanel and Miley.

The annual list of top name selections, released last week, was topped by Jayden for boys and Isabella for girls -- but further down the list were girl name No. 73 Malia, the name of one of President Barack Obama's daughters, and boy name No. 158 Usher, after the popular recording artist, the New York Post reported.

Also included on the list were No. 104 Scarlett, as in actress Scarlett Johansson; No. 112 Miley, like singer and TV star Miley Cyrus; and fashion-inspired names including No. 139 girls' name Chanel, and boys' names No. 148 Dior and No. 150 Armani.

"One thing this shows is that people need to be attracted to the name on its own merits, and also need to find some meaning or inspiration -- often in the personality who inspired it," Pamela Satran, co-author of "The Baby Name Bible," told the Post.

"Parents who are afraid of choosing a name that's going to get too popular should steer clear of pop culture names," Satran said. "Malia may seem exotic and unusual right now, but the fame of the first daughter will make it much more widely used."

New York man posts personals at payphones

NEW YORK (UPI) -- A 40-year-old New York man is posting his own personal ad, which specifically requests a blond with a sizeable chest, at city payphones.

Malik Turner, who lives with his mother in Harlem, said he posted the ad at "four or five" payphones around the city after friends at work warned him about the dangers of Internet dating, the New York Post reported.

The ad insists all respondents be long-haired blonds as well as "big-chested, curvy, leggy, voluptuous (NOT FAT)" and "willing to take turns paying on date (NO GOLDDIGGERS!!!!!)."

The ad says "hookers, she-males, transsexuals (and) transvestites" need not apply.

"I go to nightclubs, but it's hard for me to find a woman of my own. I talk to them, dance with them, but sometimes I don't get their cellphone numbers," Turner told the Post.

There was no immediate word on whether the ads were producing results for Turner.
