Bronze-casting coins from 3d-printed parts

To celebrate their grand opening, the folks at the QC Co-Lab hackerspace in Davenport, Iowa decided to cast some bronze coins with their logo on them. They started by printing the design on a Makerbot, then used the plastic prints to form sand molds for the pour. Looks like fun! [via Makerbot]

Lego model of an abandoned house

This beautifully unnerving model of a house was, amazingly, Mike Doyle's first MOC (My Own Creation) since he built as a child. Super impressive! Expect to see a lot more great work out of this guy. (Also, puts me in a mood for Halloween!)

I am teaching a new class at Parsons School of Design. SparkleLab: Widget Makers is similar to a your standard physical computing class. We cover basic electronics and microcontrollers with Arduino. As far I can recall this is the first time an open source hardware product has been certified for 3G networks. There are many milestones in open source hardware, and there will be many more - this is one of them.
