Snyder tapped to direct next 'Superman'

LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- Zack Snyder will direct the next "Superman" movie, Hollywood's Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures said Monday.

Snyder's film credits include "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole," "300" and "Watchmen."

The Hollywood Reporter said the studios and producer Christopher Nolan met with Darren Aronofsky, Ben Affleck, Matt Reeves and Tony Scott before starting negotiations with Snyder.

Charles Dance lands 'Neverland' role

NEW YORK (UPI) -- British actor Charles Dance has joined the cast of the upcoming 4-hour television miniseries "Neverland," Syfy said Monday.

Dance's film credits include "Alien 3," "Bleak House" and "Gosford Park."

His casting in the Syfy and Sky Movies HD's project was announced Monday by Robert Halmi Sr. of RHI Entertainment.

"Neverland," a prequel to author J.M. Barrie's classic tale "Peter Pan," is written and will be directed by Nick Willing.

Funeral held for Tony Curtis in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (UPI) -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and actress Jamie Lee Curtis were among those who spoke at Tony Curtis' Las Vegas funeral Monday.

The star of more than 150 films -- including "Spartacus," "The Defiant Ones," "Some Like it Hot" and "Operation Petticoat" -- Tony Curtis died of cardiac arrest Sept. 29 at age 85.

People.com said the memorial was held at Palm Mortuary where video clips from his movies were shown and paintings he created were on display....

McTiernan sentenced to year in jail

LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- A Los Angeles judge sentenced filmmaker John McTiernan to a year in prison for his role in the Anthony Pellicano wiretapping case, New York magazine said.

McTiernan's film credits include "Die Hard," "Predator," "The Hunt for Red October" and "Rollerball."

He has admitted hiring private investigator Pellicano to wiretap producer Charles Rosen in 2002, then lying about the illegal activity during a 2006 FBI investigation, the magazine noted.
