The third session of the event that pits a team from the United States against European golfers was to begin Sunday after a delay of several hours because of rain. Play was suspended for more than seven hours Friday because of storms. The U.S. team was up 6-4 but trailed in all six matches that were started but not completed Saturday. There are also still two foursome matches and four four-ball matches to be finished before the singles matches. The United States, since it won the 2008 Ryder Cup, needs 14 of the 28 possible points to retain the trophy. The European team needs 14 1/2 points. Teams received one point for a match victory and 1/2 for a draw. Under current agreements, all matches not concluded by 1:43 p.m. EDT Monday will be declared draws.
